A House for Four Boys

The owners of this 1911 farmhouse love their home and its location in the heart of Falls Church. However, with an expanding family, including four young boys, it required some major renovations and upgrades to the property. The house, with its two-story front massing, gable roof and large front porch, is welcoming and comfortable on the site. At all costs, this was to be preserved.

The renovation provides upgrades to all existing rooms and a new ā€œLā€ addition that wraps the side and rear of the house, with the kitchen, family room, mudroom and screened porch on the first floor and a master suite on the second.

A new separate garage was built to the rear of the property, the single story outbuilding appropriately subordinate to the main house. The surprise of the property is the 840 square foot gym hidden below grade, under the garage floor. Reached from a stair at the side of the garage, the gym with 20ā€™ ceilings contains basketball hoops and batting cages.
